The runtime
The W1 desktop app is an Electron application. Electron bundles Chromium and Node.js, which together account for far more third-party code than everything in the list below combined.
- Electron 41.5.0 — MIT, © Electron contributors and © 2013–2020 GitHub Inc.
- Chromium 146.0.7680.216 — BSD-3-Clause and a large set of component licences.
- Node.js 24.15.0 — MIT, plus the licences of its own bundled dependencies.
Chromium’s full third-party notice file is large enough that reproducing it here would make this page unreadable. It ships inside the application instead, as LICENSES.chromium.html in the Electron framework bundle, exactly as Chromium’s licence requires.
What W1 is built from
The W1 desktop application began as a fork of T3 Code, which is MIT licensed, © 2026 T3 Tools, Inc. We are grateful for it, and the MIT licence and copyright notice travel with our copy.
Specific notices
Most of the licences below ask only that their text and copyright line travel with the software. A few ask for something more particular, and those are named here.
- Typefaces — W1 uses DM Sans and JetBrains Mono, distributed via
@fontsourceunder the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The OFL permits bundling and redistribution and requires that the fonts are not sold on their own and that the licence travels with them. - Icons — some editor file-type icon symbols derive from vscode-icons, MIT, © 2016 Roberto Huertas.
- argparse is Python-2.0, isbot is Unlicense, sax is BlueOak-1.0.0 and tslib is 0BSD. All are permissive; they are listed separately only because they are unusual enough to be worth stating plainly rather than rounding to “MIT and friends”.
@react-grab/clideclares no licence field in its manifest. Its bundledLICENSEfile is verbatim MIT, © 2025 Aiden Bai, and it is counted as MIT below on that basis.
There is no copyleft-licensed code in W1. We checked every package for GPL, LGPL, AGPL, MPL, EPL, CDDL, SSPL and BUSL terms, and found none.
Every package
Counted by distinct package name across the desktop application and the W1 harness that ships inside it. Where a package declares a dual licence we have taken the permissive option and said so above.

W1’s own licence
W1 itself is not open source. The desktop application, the VS Code extension and the W1 harness are proprietary software, © 2026 The Williams Agency, licensed to you under the beta terms of use rather than by an open-source licence. The fork notice in What W1 is built from still applies to the portions that came from T3 Code.
Corrections
If your package is listed under the wrong licence, is missing, or is attributed incorrectly, that is a mistake we want to fix rather than argue about. Write to support@w1lab.com or open a thread from the contact page and we will correct it.
